About our Candles

Hand-poured in small batches, all of our candles are made with love and intention and in alignment with the planet.

Let's talk beeswax! Our candles are made with 100% local beeswax. Beeswax is the healthiest, cleanest burning wax available.  It is slow-burning, so you'll enjoy more hours from the same size candle when it is beeswax versus soy or paraffin. Not only is it clean-burning, it actually emits negative ions into the air and has air purifying effects. 

Why don't we add scent to our candles? The sweet honey smell that beeswax naturally emits when it is burned means that we don't need to use any added scents to make your home smell lovely. Most candles on the market are scented with synthetic fragrances which are incredibly toxic. Even candles labeled as being made with essential oils are often made with synthetic, lab-made essential oils... far from the natural product that is deceivingly marketed. Alas, we prefer the sweet scent that nature's magical honeybees naturally produce in beeswax, and we bee-lieve you will, too!

Why not soy? The majority of the soy candles on the market are made with gmo soy. Even organic soy candles are not as clean burning or environmentally friendly as beeswax. From a sustainability perspective, soy is quite unethical. It is grown as a monoculture crop and often devastating in its production... rainforest destruction, habitat loss, chemical use, human rights ramifications and more.

The moral of our candle story: Our beeswax candles support local beekeepers. Beexwax is the most sustainable wax option. Beeswax is the healthiest wax option. We think it's the bee's knees... don't you, too?

Additional sustainability notes about our candles:

• We use 100% local beeswax that we source directly from the apiaries, keeping the supply chain as local and direct as possible while also supporting local bees!
• Our mason jars are secondhand mason jars when available, as we feel that the most sustainable materials possible are re-used ones. Feel free to ask before order if we are using secondhand or new and to request one or the other. Occasionally we come across new-old-stock lids, but typically our mason jar lids are new, fyi.
• The wick that we use is organic hemp with a beeswax coating. We also use second-hand jars and other containers from estate sales, antique shops, etcetera.
• Our prayer candle jars are new. ps We'd love to find a source for prayer jars made from recycled glass, if you happen to know of one?
• We are proudly a soy-free, paraffin-free candle company!
• All of the herbs/flowers/plants used to make our candles are sustainably wild-harvested or organically grown on The Firefly Fields homestead.
• Powdered Baltic Amber that we use in our candles is consciously-sourced.
• Please note: The color of the wax may vary from our sample photos, as it photographs differently under different lights. Additionally, beeswax naturally varies in color depending on the completely natural process of how beeswax comes to be (honey/pollen exposure etcetera). We do not use any dyes in our wax. Our wax is less processed, so it ranges in glorious colors from golden to a light tan, sometimes almost olive color.
• Our beeswax is 100% beeswax. Did you know that it's common for candles that are marketed as beeswax to have paraffin added? We prefer our candles to not have petroleum *har har har*, so never add paraffin.
• Our candles are essential oil free. We admire an herbalist who explains her concerns well, so are linking it here.
