Sustainability

The majority of our wooden necklaces are made with maple hardwood that is USA-sourced from a supplier who harvests with specificity rather than clear-cutting the land. Because sustainability is so important to us, we are currently working towards a closed circle wood production of our wooden necklaces. This means that we sustainably hand-harvest wood from our homestead and have it locally milled. We are currently testing samples from our own wood so that we can bring whimsical wooden jewelry to the market with unparalleled sustainability and transparency. Knowing the wood's exact sourcing and production is something that we are so egg-cited about and can't wait to share this level of sustainability in our wooden products with you! By the end of 2024, all wooden pendants should be made with our own wood. The sterling silver that is used to make our jewelry is sourced from a family-owned business and is partially recycled sterling.

We are now offering products made from wood from our land. All of our Homestead Harvested and Luxury Woodland Wares products are made with complete transparency and sustainability, whereby we personally sustainably harvest trees on our homestead. The wood is then locally kiln dried and rough cut before returning to us where we allow the wood to properly age, cut the boards to size, hand-sand, cut, engrave, finish and assemble them into products for you! 

The Firefly Fields candles are industry leaders in sustainability and transparency. Our wax is 100% local beeswax that we source directly from the apiaries, keeping the supply chain as local and direct as possible while also supporting local bees! Our wicks are organic hemp with a beeswax coating. Plants that adorn our candles are either organically grown or sustainably wild-harvested, primarily on our homestead.

Package options are all conscious of the world in which we live. For example, our jewelry boxes are made from FSC-certified cardboard and water-based glue. The inserts are made from a viscose velvet (a wood by-product) rather than foam (plastic-based). The inserts are even recyclable!! 

Let's talk about our shipping materials! Our honeycomb packing paper is recyclable, biodegradable and a great alternative to plastic bubble wrap! Our bubble mailers are made from PBAT and cornstarch, making them 100% biodegradable, compostable, non-toxic and BPA-free, all while generating less CO2 than traditional plastic. Our shipping boxes are recyclable, and we now use an environmentally friendly packing tape that is made with a water-based glue. 

Business cards and business card shaped tags are made from FSC certified 100% post consumer recycled paper. Our Brown cardstock tags and inserts are made in-house with cardstock that is USA-made with green-powered energy from 100% recycled (and 30% post consumer waste) material that is chlorine, lignin and acid-free and fully biodegradable.
